CTP
BiTmaP is a Chicago Technology Park (CTP) initiative. CTP is a non-profit 56-acre research park established to foster the commercialization of innovative technologies through state-of-the-art facilities and critical support services. CTP is administered by the Illinois Medical District .

IMD
The Illinois Medical District (IMD), a 560-acre district on the west side of Chicago, is home to four major medical centers, research initiatives, Universities, and technology commercialization facilities.

The Illinois Medical District offers the ideal location for new educational programs, research, biotechnology and medical development within the Chicago area.

The University of Illinois at Chicago
The Chicago Technology Park selected the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), Department of Biomedical Engineering as its academic training partner. This Department hosts the only Bioinformatics Masters and Ph.D. program accredited by the Illinois Board of Higher Education, develops and administers BiTmaP curriculum and training. UIC utilizes the U of I – Online distance learning system to conduct the BiTmaP Training.

U.S. Department of Labor
BiTmaP is sponsored by a $3 million grant awarded to the Chicago Technology Park by the U.S. Department of Labor. This grant is part of the H-1 B Technical Skills Grant Program. H-1 B Technical Skills grants are a long-term solution to domestic skill shortages in high skill and high technology occupations. Fees paid by companies that sponsor H1-B visas for high-skilled foreign workers finance these grants. They are meant to bolster the domestic high-tech workforce and reduce dependence on foreign workers. The BiTmaP program will serve as a model for other U.S. Department of Labor retraining programs.
