About the BiTmaP Program
BiTmaP is an online bioinformatics training program initiated by the Chicago Technology Park (CTP) and conducted through the Bioengineering Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). BiTmaP’s goal has been to provide bioinformatics skills and employment opportunities for IT professionals in the Midwest to meet the growing bioinformatics needs in our industry and academic institutions.
The Program is supported by $6M in funding from the U.S. Department of Labor, the Illinois Medical District, UIC and other local partners. This funding has supported curriculum development, tuition stipends and supplemental job skills training for students. The program employs online course work supplemented with mentoring and career development support to enable students to identify and secure internship and job opportunities in the field of bioinformatics.
